Introducing the ETH4D visiting scientist and students
Meet visiting scientist Dr. Nia Hidayat and visiting students Andrés Javier Bello Hernandez, Arpit Mishra and Parwiz Mosamim. Coming from across the globe with different academic backgrounds, all of them have different plans for their research stays at ETH Zurich.
Meet Visiting Scientist Dr. Nia Kurniawati Hidayat
Dr. Nia Kurniawati Hidayat has a background in socioeconomics and holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability Science from Maastricht University. Currently, she works at the Department of Resources and Environmental Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management, external page IPB University. IPB and ETH, particularly with the Environmental Policy Group at D-GESS, are initiating a research collaboration on zero-deforestation commitments (ZDCs) implementation in the palm oil sector. She believes that the research stay at ETH Zurich will be a good chance for her to start the collaboration, sharing, and working closely together with the team to develop a similar understanding of the project related area. She will conduct a literature study on the potential pathway toward a more sustainable future for oil palm smallholders.
Meet the visiting students
Andrés Javier Bello Hernandez
Andrés is a Master Student in Chemical Engineering from the external page Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. Coming from Colombia, one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, he has always been interested in finding ways in which he can responsibly use nature to help the community. Particularly, at ETH Zurich he is involved in a project at the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering that aims to create rapid tests for dengue fever, one of the diseases that most stresses the health system of countries in the intertropical zones.
Arpit Mishra
Arpit is pursuing his doctoral research at the Process Equipment and Design Laboratory (PEDL) of Cryogenic Engineering Centre at the external page Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur). In 2019, Arpit worked on a collaborative project at LEGI, University of Grenoble, France, on a Raman-Charpak Fellowship for 6 months. From his early undergraduate years, he recognised himself as having a strong entice to the field of mechanical engineering. Particularly, at ETH Zurich he is working in Prof. Outi Supponen’s group at the Institute of Fluid Dynamics, where he is trying to understand the physical insight of interacting tandem-bubbles and exploit their mechanical effects for various engineering applications associated with strong bubble oscillations and collapse.
Parwiz Mosamim
Parwiz got his Bachelor's degree in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication at external page Herat University in Afghanistan. He had worked as a Journalist for almost 4 years in different types of media in the country. In 2018, he received a scholarship to pursue his master's degree in the field of Public Administration at external page Universitas Padjadjaran in Indonesia. Currently, at ETH Zurich he is part of the Spatial Development and Urban Policy Research Group. His research focuses on Representative Bureaucracy, Positive Discrimination Policy and Afghan women’s representation in public service in the Post-Taliban. He believes that since ETH Zurich is a globally high ranked University, he is glad to be a small part of this academic space.
