Meet the Visiting Scientists

In this semester, Dr. Rubain Adéyèmi Bankolé from the University of Parakou, Benin, Dr. Charles Gyamfi and Dr. Eugene Appiah-Effah from KNUST, Ghana are visiting ETH Zurich for collaborative research and to build on existing research partnerships.  

Dr. Rubain Adéyèmi Bankolé

Dr. Rubain Adéyèmi Bankolé holds a PhD in the sociology of development and has been working as a research assistant at external pagethe University of Parakou, Benin since 2013. He specializes in the sociology of education and focuses his research activities on technical vocational education and training, innovation-development, the youth labour market transition and skills development.

The University of Parakou and the Development Economics Group at ETH have been participating in a cross-cutting, international research project (LELAM TVET4INCOME), which assesses the impact of TVET on youth labour market transition in Benin, Chili, Costa Rica and Nepal. During this visit, Rubain will have opportunity to pursue his research at the Development Economics Group, will develop his teaching skills and solidify the partnership between University of Parakou and ETH Zurich.

Ing. Dr. Charles Gyamfi 

external pageIng. Dr. Charles Gyamfi is a Civil Engineer with over a decade experience practicing as a Water Resources Engineer. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Hydrology and Water Resources from the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa.  Currently, he is a faculty member of the Civil Engineering Department at the Kwame Nkrumah external pageUniversity of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. 

At ETH, he will be working together with his collaborator, Prof Peter Molnar and his team at the Institute of Environmental Engineering on Climate Resilience and Adaptation Strategies and their linkage to sustainable water resources management within the West Africa Sub region. He believes that ETH presents a conducive collaborative research environment where ideas could be shared and further developed into relevant research concepts that are fundable. As he looks forward to an elaborative engagement with experts at ETH, he is the more thrilled that a stronger collaboration will emerge between ETH and KNUST.

Dr. Eugene Appiah-Effah

Dr. Eugene Appiah-Effah holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Environmental Engineering. He is a Lecturer at the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre-Kumasi (RWESCK), at the Department of Civil Engineering, external pageKwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. His work is centred on contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 6, focusing on ensuring access to safely managed Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services.

At EAWAG, he will be working with external pageSANDEC to develop an Excreta Flow Diagram for Kumasi. He believes that the research stay at EAWAG-SANDEC sponsored by ETH4D will provide an excellent opportunity for him to collaborate, share and work with experts in a dynamic group to identify solutions to problems and improve the WASH situation in underserved communities in developing countries.
