AfricAIED

ETH Postdoc George Jojo Boateng organized AfricAIED, the first workshop on AI in education in Africa. The workshop took place in July at Google Research Ghana. It brought together educators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and experts to discuss opportunities for AI to enhance learning in Africa. The event also included technical presentations from the team leads of the NSMQ AI project on their work collaboratively building an AI system to win Ghana’s National Science & Maths Quiz competition, and eventually tutor students.

Using Serious Games to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

ETH Postdoc Ivan Novotny developed a strategic role-playing game at the request of NGO partners at Hapy Togo and Ètoile Verte to understand smallholder farmers' perspectives and strategies. The Research to action grant supported training of local collaborators to facilitate game sessions independently in the field, promoting longterm dialogue between NGOs and Togolese farmers.
