Call for Applications: Seasonal School "Accelerating SDG 6 in Sub-Saharan Africa"

Applications are open for the seasonal school taking place in Switzerland from 6-20 April 2024. The school will bring together doctoral students and experts from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and Swiss Universities to facilitate a dialogue on how can we reach scale for the UN Water Action Agenda.

PhD candidates are invited to submit proposals to participate in a Seasonal School on ‘’Accelerating SDG 6 in Sub-Saharan Africa – how can we reach scale for the UN Water Action Agenda?’’. The thematic focus areas are: Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) and Water Resources.
Organized by external page Eawag-Sandec in partnership with the ETH Zurich Institute of Environmental Engineering and the external page Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, the school will take place from 6 April to 20 April 2024 in Zurich and Losone.

The Seasonal School is free of charge, all costs and expenses (transport, board & lodging) will be covered.

This is a unique opportunity for north-south exchange among highly motivated PhD’s: The Seasonal School aims to bring together Swiss and KNUST experts and PhD students to facilitate dialogue in a focused, in-depth, and constructive discussion of the candidates’ research. This will be accomplished by (i) focusing on the PhD students’ research activities, tools and methods being used, and their preliminary research results; (ii) discussing and sharing ideas on how Sub-Saharan Africa can reach scale for the UN Water Action on specific topical issues; and (iii) group work on SDG 6 case studies taken from the Sub-Saharan Africa context.

Upon completion of the Seasonal School, participants:

• will have learned about new theories, concepts, frameworks and emerging trends in WASH research,
• will be familiarized with WASH research on Sub-Saharan Africa and how we can reach scale for the UN Water Action,
• through inter-cultural learning activities, will have gained knowledge on how to engage in dialogue and cooperate with international colleagues, and
• will be able to use their new connections to establish research collaborations and identify future funding opportunities available for joint activities between Ghana and Switzerland.
