Boosting the Quality of Education in Uganda: An Interview with ETH4D Doctoral Mentee Mercy Chemutai
Mercy Chemutai, a doctoral researcher at the Moi University in the field of Educational Research and Evaluation, collaborated with Dr. Patrick McDonald from the Department of Management, Technology and Economics as part of the ETH4D Doctoral Mentorship Programme. In this interview, she talks about what drives her research and what changes she hopes to see in the education system in Uganda.

The Global Development Summer School 2023: Rethinking Mobility
Between 30 August and 16 September, 60 students of ETH Zurich and KNUST from 10 countries came together in 8 multidisciplinary groups to define problems and design solutions towards sustainable mobility for a rapidly developing urban community in Kumasi, Ghana.

In this policy briefing, Patrick Illien and co-authors from the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern as well as from partner institutions in Laos and Rwanda showcase the importance of evidence-based tools for measuring the impacts of agricultural growth on rural poverty. Agricultural growth can not only drive economic development but also bears significant risks for low-income countries, and particularly for marginalized population groups.

Meet the new Doctoral Fellows 2023
We are happy to introduce you our two new Doctoral Fellows 2023: Karma Sherub and Tamirat Haile. Karma strives to find solutions for mitigating human-wildlife conflict in Bhutan to protect agricultural sites and wildlife alike. Tamirat will be characterising the dynamics of droughts and providing a robust and operational drought forecasting model for the Horn of Africa.
