ETH4D General Assembly
On 1st December 2021, ETH for Development (ETH4D) held its General Assembly which gathered members and the leadership of various ETH units including ETH Sustainability and Nadel - Center for Development and Cooperation, amongst others, which are part of the ETH-wide initiative on global sustainable development. The achieved milestones of 2021 and the growing activities and plans for the following years were shared by the team of the Executive Office.
At this year’s ETH4D General Assembly, the initiative’s milestones and projects of 2021 were presented in a hybrid form. Adina Rom, ETH4D Executive Director, shared with the audience a review and gave an outlook on the planned activities for 2022 and beyond. Along with the three pillars of the initiative, namely “research”, “learning” and “exchange” she showcased how ETH4D is expanding existing and developing new teaching and research activities for global sustainable development across ETH.
Examples include the growing learning partnerships such as the very successful Summer School with Ghana’s KNUST on rethinking waste management as well as setting up the Ashesi-ETH Mechatronics Master Programme, which will be starting in 2022, or the outreach activities like the exhibition on the Global Sustainable Development Goals in the main hall of ETH, amongst others.
Participants were particularly interested in further innovating and disseminating the emerging learning formats and partnerships within their departments and contexts which are characterized by their boundary-spanning, collective learning, and transformative experiences. They also contributed with their own ideas for co-creating possible future endeavors and developments to further strengthen the work on global sustainable development across departments and collaborate with external partners amplified by ETH4D’s work. The event was concluded with a networking lunch to deepen the conversations.
