Swiss Subsaharan Africa Migration Network - Call open now!
On behalf of the Leading House for the Region Africa, the Swiss Subsaharan Africa Migration Network at Université de Neuchatel has launched a new call - the S-SAM Third call 2019 - targeting late PhD and early postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa or Switzerland to submit proposals for short pilot studies and/or academic exchanges.
3 strategies for Africa to thrive in this new era of globalization
Africa's contribution to global scientific knowledge stands at 1.1%. Currently, the ratio between scientist and inhabitants stands at 79 scientists per million inhabitants, the lowest in the world. At the same time, scientists trained in Africa often end up working elsewhere due to the lack of infrastructure and availability of resources.

From rural to urban and vice versa: RUNRES investigates circular economies in Africa
The project RUNRES, led by researchers of the Sustainable Agroecosystems Group and the Transdisciplinary Lab of ETH Zurich will be working in four different African countries and on four different food value chains: coffee, cassava, banana and vegetables. The goal of RUNRES is to close the nutrient cycle in city regions and build so-called circular economies, where nutrients from waste are recycled to be used in food production.
New course on sustainable development for ETH-students
In the fall semester 2019, NADEL and ETH for Development (ETH4D) is offering a new course - “Sustainable Development - Bridging Art and Science” - targeting students from all disciplines. The course featured four recently released films, which will be discussed with researchers and policy makers.

The pioneer fellow and ETH alumn Dr. Gnanli Landrou wins the "together we're better" award from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) with his ETH spin-off Oxara.
